As a proud member of Accord Multi Academy Trust, we work closely with our partner schools to deliver exceptional teaching, strong pastoral support and a shared commitment to raising aspirations across the Wakefield district.

The rain didn’t dampen spirits this morning at GCSE Results Day! 🎉
It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces as our Year 11 cohort opened their envelopes and celebrated the rewards of all their hard work, commitment and determination. We are incredibly proud not only of everything they have achieved, but of the young people they have become. Their character, ambition and determination will serve them well as they take their next steps.
Today's success is not only a reflection of our pupils' resilience and perseverance, but also of the support they've received from parents, carers, families and staff along the way. It was wonderful to see our whole school community sharing in this special moment.

Tomorrow (Thursday 20 August) we will welcome back Year 11 pupils and their families for GCSE Results Day. Here's everything you need to know:
- Results can be collected 8.30am-10am from the Main Hall.
- Students are encouraged to come and collect results in person to receive them promptly and celebrate their achievements. 🎉
- Support will be available on the day, both in terms of discussing remarks or thinking about next steps. 💭
- If a pupil is unable to attend in person, they can nominate someone to collect their results with an exams results collection request and valid photo ID.
We look forward to celebrating the hard work, resilience and achievements of our young people, and sharing this important milestone with them.

📢 Important Reminder: School Payments Moving to MCAS
Parents and carers, a reminder that from September, all payments for school dinners, trips and other school products will be made through MCAS (MyChildAtSchool). We will no longer be using Tucasi Scopay.
This change means that payments will sit alongside your child’s information within the MCAS app, making it easier to manage everything in one place.
What you need to know:
- Any existing Scopay balances, trip payments and purchased products have been transferred to MCAS. These may not appear until closer to the start of term while new accounts are being activated.
- You may receive an account activation email from MCAS. This is expected and simply means our Finance Team is preparing accounts ahead of September – you don’t need to do anything.
- Payments cannot currently be made through either MCAS or Scopay. Payment functionality is expected to be available from the final week of August.
If you already have an MCAS account:
- Your Scopay balance will automatically transfer across.
- Payments will appear as an additional tab within your existing MCAS account.
- Please note balances may not appear immediately and will be activated later this month.
If you don't yet have an MCAS account (and your child is already enrolled):
- Please set up your MCAS account as soon as possible by getting in touch with the academy on enquiries@horbury.accordmat.org.
- We will need a current email address to create your account. Once created, you'll receive an email with instructions to set your password and access your account.
- During the summer break, academy staffing levels are reduced, so please allow additional time for responses to enquiries.
If your child is joining us in Year 7 this September:
- You will receive information towards the end of August explaining how to set up your MCAS account.
- Once activated, you'll be able to add dinner money and manage payments through MCAS.
We recommend downloading the MCAS app for the easiest access to school communications and payments, although you can also log in via the website. More information on MCAS can be found on our website: bit.ly/4zjO40K.

If you have any issues or questions, please contact our Finance Team at finance@accordmat.org. However, please be aware that most common issues, such as not being able to view your balance, should be resolved automatically over the next few weeks.

Reflecting on our very special Attendance Extravaganza! 🎉
We rounded off the term by celebrating pupils who achieved 100% attendance, 95% attendance, and those who made significant improvements to their attendance in the final month of term.
Pupils were entered into a prize draw, with many fantastic prizes generously donated by local businesses. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the following organisations for their support:

Our Hair and Beauty team organised another wonderful Golden Thank You session to round off the summer term. ✨
The salon was filled with smiles and gratitude as pupils welcomed their loved ones in for a range of relaxing treatments and a little well-deserved pampering.
It was a lovely opportunity for our young people to show their appreciation to those who support them every day, while also proudly showcasing the fantastic skills, professionalism and confidence they have developed throughout the year.
A huge well done to everyone involved for making the event such a success!

What a wonderful way to round off the term by giving back to our local community. 💙
We were delighted to make two special visits to the residents of Inwood House Care Home. Our talented Drama and Music pupils performed a summer showcase featuring dramatic performances, instrumental pieces and vocal numbers, bringing smiles to residents and staff alike.
Meanwhile, our Hair and Beauty pupils treated residents to an afternoon of pampering, offering hair styling and makeup services that left everyone feeling refreshed and special.
It was heartwarming to see how much joy these visits brought to everyone involved. As well as being a lovely experience for the residents, it also provided a valuable opportunity for our pupils, who represented the school with kindness, professionalism and maturity throughout.
A huge thank you to Miss Pyatt, Mr Jeffery, Mrs Green and the wider team for organising these fantastic experiences and strengthening our links with the local community.

We have enjoyed some wonderful events over the past few weeks as we have counted down to the summer break. From our trips to Wimbledon and the Emirates Stadium, to our own Sports Day right here on site, pupils have had fantastic opportunities to experience sport in different settings, challenge themselves, and support one another.
A huge thank you to our staff for their tireless hard work and dedication in organising these memorable events. The experiences and opportunities they provide for our young people are truly invaluable.

Attendance plays a vital role in school success, and a group of our Year 8 and 9 pupils have shown exceptional dedication by achieving 100% attendance from their very first day with us.
To recognise this remarkable accomplishment, we hosted a special celebration with delicious treats from Boulby's Bakery and the opportunity to meet with academy leaders to reflect on their achievements and look ahead to the summer break.

We want all students to achieve their full potential, regardless of their starting point or context. We believe that all pupils have the right to acquire powerful knowledge within a broad and rich curriculum. The skills they learn are taught to last and are applicable in a wide variety of contexts.
We want pupils to be actively engaged in their education, and instil in them a lifelong love of learning. Pupils will become active, resilient and independent learners. Pupils, staff, parents and carers should see education as a lifelong experience.
We are proud of our strong GCSE results which sit firmly above the national average. We also offer Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) as an integral part of our curriculum offer, to help pupils make informed choices and progress positively when they leave us.
We understand that curriculum is only one part of the pupil experience. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities for all pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. These clubs include football, netball, hockey, chess, creative writing, film, photography, art, choir, musical ensembles and our STEAM Scouts.
All year groups have regular trips and visits linked to their learning, to help deepen their academic knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Off-timetable curriculum enrichment days and workshops offer pupils the chance to spend a day fully immersed in a topic they are studying.
We celebrate and recognise annual awareness campaigns such as Mental Health Awareness Week and World Book Day with events and activities in the academy. We also regularly fundraise for local, national and international charities. These initiatives are often led by pupils, for pupils.
Horbury Academy is a warm, welcoming and safe environment. Staff and pupils know they belong to an open and inclusive community. We believe that everyone matters at our academy and they should be able to learn, develop and thrive with us.
Our Rewards and Consequences policy is built around finding ways to celebrate pupils’ successes and recognise their good attendance, behaviour and effort with events and trips. We positively target groups and individuals with a wide variety of incentives and rewards. We firmly believe that praise and recognition will positive influence an individual’s behaviour, creativity, attendance and punctuality.
An effective, sophisticated support structure exists to enable students to access learning and develop effective strategies for self-managing their behaviour.
Restorative practice is understood and embraced by all.
