Reducing our plastic footprint
As part of their environmental drive, our student council is reminding pupils about the need to reduce the number of single-use plastic bottles in the academy.
It’s reported that over seven billion plastic bottles are bought across the UK each year, resulting in substantial amounts of single-use plastic waste. With the enormity of these numbers, our student council agree that it would be too easy to feel we can’t make enough of an impact, instead, they want the academy to work together to adopt small changes that can have a big environmental impact.
Things like refilling reusable bottles with tap water, instead of needlessly buying new single-use ones is one action we can all take and to support this, we installed additional water fountains throughout the academy this academic year. We’ve also replaced juice cuplets with juice shots which can be added to reusable bottles at a cost of 30p per shot. Aside from the environmental impact, juice shots (which are available from the restaurant and atrium cafe) also constitute one of your five-a-day!
We’ve got some other developments in the pipeline which will further reduce our plastic footprint so keep an eye out for more information!
