Getting Started

Welcome to Horbury Academy!

As a parent/carer of a new starter, you’ll no doubt be keen to get started, with access to our parental communication system and online payment system, so read on to find out how / what to expect.

MyChildAtSchool (MCAS)

We use MCAS by Bromcom (available as an app for mobile devices, or as a website) as our preferred platform for academy / parent communication.

As a new parent/carer, you will be provided with our School ID (11791) and a username unique to you by email, and an invitation code, also unique to you as an individual, by text message. Once you’ve been provided with these, you can head to either the MCAS app or the MCAS website.

If you need an account, please contact data@horbury.accordmat.org

Tucasi Online Payments

To manage your payments for meals, trips and other items, we use the Tucasi Online Payment system. This system allows you to view balances and pay for items online without the need for cash or cheques, which we no longer accept.

As a new parent/carer, you will receive a letter from the academy containing your Online Link Code. This code will enable you to set up your account at www.scopay.com/school. Register as a New User and follow the instructions on the screen. If you need assistance creating your account, take a look at the help guides below.

Microsoft Office

All Horbury Academy pupils have a Microsoft Office license which can be installed at home for free. In order to do so, pupils can click here and log in with their academy email address.

Every pupil is issued a user account during their first week at school. If you need any technical support and guidance, our Tech Support team will be happy to help where they can at: techsupport@accordmat.org.

Through Microsoft Office, pupils can access Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint.

As may be your own experience, Microsoft Teams has been invaluable throughout the pandemic as a way of meeting (and even teaching!), virtually, whilst Microsoft SharePoint has become an ‘intranet’ whereby pupils are kept abreast of academy news.

Uniform

In acknowledgement of government guidance, we have taken the decision to rationalise our uniform suppliers based on cost comparisons and can confirm our preferred supplier to be The Box in Ossett. The Box stock academy approved blazers, PE tops and skirts. All other items of uniform can either be purchased from The Box or alternative high street retailers.

Find full details in our Uniform Policy below.

Catering

Academy break and lunches are staggered throughout the school day – Year 7 pupils will break and lunch as a separate year group.

During the summer as advised above, you will receive a letter with a link code to top your child’s catering account prior to the start of their first day. During the first week (providing permission), we will enrol pupils on to the thumbprint recognition system to ensure that queuing times are kept to a minimum.

Snacks such as bagels, toast and various other promotions will be available during break time using our on-site café and restaurant facilities.

At lunchtime, we offer a meal deal consisting of a main meal and pudding or a drink. We do encourage pupils to bring an academy water bottle to fill up at one of our water fountains which are located in the restaurant, atrium and PE department.

Other options available include a sandwich deal, wraps and an academy favourite, ‘pasta pots’.

As an academy rule, no child will be refused lunch. However, if an account is overdrawn, we would not allow any purchases during break. We would also kindly ask that all catering accounts are monitored to maintain a positive balance and to ensure that children are eating a healthy, balanced diet.

Please see our new menu below

Lockers

Academy lockers will be available to purchase throughout your child’s stay in the academy. These are priced at £35 for the 5 years and the payment is a rental fee.

Your child will receive a rental agreement within the first week of starting. This is to be signed by both the pupil and parent/carer, with payment made via the online payment system, SCOpay, before a locker is allocated.

The Accord Multi Academy Trust is an educational charity established in September 2016 that is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. In September 2016 Horbury Academy and Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College came together, moving away from their stand-alone Trust status and were joined in December 2016 by Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy.

The overarching vision for the Trust is to work in one ‘Accord – celebrating the differences of each academy through strong collaboration in order to inspire all members of our learning community to be the best that they can be.
