Sociology
Sociology is a new and exciting GCSE option at Horbury Academy!
Over a two-year course, pupils will discover how Sociology came about by studying key figures like Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim and Max Webber and will look at how their theories have explained the behaviour of society. We also look at perspectives such as Feminism, Functionalism, Communism and many more.
This is an ideal option for pupils who have an interest in the people, the politics and world around them and who have questions and opinions about society. The skills that will be taught in this subject include discussion and debate, analysis of data and questioning and evaluating the theories of others – all of which are useful life skills and can be transferred to a variety of other GCSE options.
